Albion FUMC Capital Campaign
Campaign Overview
At the Albion United Methodist Church, we are the recipients of a rich heritage of loving God and loving each other. Our forerunners in the faith have left us a legacy of serving, sharing and caring that gives life to this Christian community. With the campaign, we seek to build upon that faith for the future.

Our Campaign Timeline and Goal
When we began the Opening Doors for Tomorrow Capital Campaign in 2006, the projected cost for all phases was estimated to be in the neighborhood of $1.5 million. The Capital Campaign committee began fund raising for Phase I in the spring of 2007. Phase I construction was completed in 2008 and paid for before the committee began to discuss plans for Phase II. Construction on Phase II began in January 2011 and will be completed in the fall of 2011. Phase III of the campaign will not begin until the remaining debt on Phase II is retired. This will hopefully be accomplished during 2012.
Phase I
Phase I concentrated on the Tennant/Fellowship wing and the main floor restrooms:
- Lead paint and asbestos abatement as necessary.
- Tennant Hall was totally updated with new, energy efficient windows, paint, carpeting, heat and air conditioning systems and the first phase of acoustical panels on the ceilings.
- Fellowship Lounge was updated with new, energy efficient windows, paint, carpet, and air conditioning systems.
- The restrooms were reconfigured to allow for two handicap accessible restrooms.
- The entry off Oswego St. was redone with handicap accessible doors.
- The hallway off Oswego St. had new energy efficient lighting installed and was painted and carpeted.
Phase I construction began in summer 2007 and was completed in spring 2008. The total cost for Phase I was $502,458.
Phase II
Phase II concentrated on the east side of the Education Wing (parking lot side) with a new entry area and elevator:
- Lead paint and asbestos abatement as necessary.
- The office areas were totally renovated. Walls were moved, and new cabinets, files, carpeting, window blinds, lighting and air conditioning were added.
- A new elevator was installed making the second and third floors accessible to those with disabilities.
- The old aluminum, single pane window walls (three stories high) were removed and replaced with double pane insulated windows with brick between the floors.
- A new ground level entry with a covered portico off the parking lot into the education wing was installed with handicap accessible doors.
- All rooms in the Education Wing were equipped with updated data and phone ports and electrical systems.
- New handicap accessible doors were put at the archway end of the Education Wing hallway and also across the archway into Wesley Chapel making these areas accessible and visible.
- The balance of acoustical treatments was done in Tennant Hall and a new stage and storage closets were built.
- The drainage issues on the east side of the building (between the parking lot and the building) were addressed and we will be getting benches and potted plants to dress the area up.
- We had the second floor corridor and classrooms painted and the wrought iron handrails on the outside steps painted.
- Boy Scout Troop158 cleaned out their space on the third floor and will be painting it as well as the stairwell to their third floor room. (Primer, paint, and supplies were donated.)
Phase II construction began in January of 2011 and will be completed in October 2011. The total cost for Phase II will be $486,000.
