Albion FUMC Capital Campaign
A Campaign for the First United Methodist Church of Albion
Building Plans and Timeline
The construction work will be done in phases. The work on Phase 1 is finished. The following items were completed as part of Phase 1:
- Air Conditioning for Tennant Hall and Fellowship Lounge
- Enlargement of the bathrooms on the first floor and at the same time make them handicap accessible
- Tennant Hall roof repair
- New lighting and acoustics in Tennant Hall
- Installation of energy efficient windows
- Remodeling of the West Entrance to make it handicap accessible, including power assisted doors
- Reconfiguration of the coat closet to provide more usable space
- Accoutrements of the interior space of Tennant Hall.
The work on Phases 2 and beyond is being planned. Initially, the Phase 2 timeline called for the work on Phase 2 to begin in late 2008 or early 2009. However, to be financially prudent, especially after the need for additional roof repairs to Tennant Hall, the Campaign committee elected to pay down all debt before any work would begin on Phase 2 and beyond.
The campaign is now debt-free and planning for Phase 2 is being done in earnest. We hope that the work will begin on this phase in early 2010. Included in Phase 2:
- Asbestos abatement of the ceilings in the office space (both the pastor’s and the church secretary’s)
- Installation of an elevator (per the architect’s specifications) in the area off the hallway just to the south of the current office space
- The necessary rearrangement of the offices to facilitate the elevator
- A new handicap accessible entry at the end of the hall (looking straight across the driveway under the archway)
- The closure of the current doorway at the end of the hall (which looks onto Oswego St.)
- The necessary finish work (hallway carpet, paint, lighting, etc.).
Included in Phases 3 and 4:
- expansion of Wesley Lounge
- installation of new windows and doors in Wesley Chapel/Lounge
- reconfiguration of bathrooms and warming kitchen in Wesley Chapel/Lounge
- creation of a new, handicap accessible entrance to Wesley Chapel/Lounge
- landscaping of the grounds surrounding the building
