Every church has the same purpose: to make students (disciples or followers) of Jesus Christ, for the transformation of the world. For us, both parts of that purpose are important.
Making students of Jesus Christ
When we study, when we worship, when we talk together, we're being students of Jesus, and becoming better students. When new people come into those conversations, we're making new students. We don't talk very much about conversion, because all of us seem to be in a constant state of change. One particular moment of change isn't all there is to being a student or follower of Jesus. The more time we spend learning, the better we get at following.
for the transformation of the world
When we get involved in the community and in helping people who are in need, when we make a difference to an individual by sharing love, when we teach a child, comfort the sick, make choices to minimize human impact on the environment, or repair a roof, we are working to transform the world. This church is committed to transformation of the world, both as an organization, and as a group of individuals who want to live lives of integrity.
We have three phrases we use to remind ourselves what we're about:
- Open hearts, open minds, open doors
- Don't go to church: be the church
- Connecting Christ to Community and College
